The number of guest nights at Swedish campsites has increased continuously over the past ten years, and 2019 was no exception. During the summer season, June-August, more than 40 per cent of all commercial guest nights in Sweden are on a campsite.
Sweden’s most popular form of holiday accommodation
The campsites are the engine of summer tourism in most of Sweden’s destinations and an important factor for the Swedish tourist industry. In 2019, the industry once again broke a record with a total of 16,747,364 guest nights, an increase of approx. 4 per cent compared with 2018. International guest nights increased by 7.5 per cent. In total, Swedish camping tourism is estimated to turn over approx. 7 billion SEK.
During the holiday months of June to August, more than 40 per cent of all of Sweden’s commercial stays are at a campsite. In some counties, the market share is higher than 70 per cent. When it comes to guests from the important foreign markets, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany, 55 per cent of visits in Sweden during the summer months are at a campsite.

Guest nights 2017-2019
The number of guest nights at Swedish campsites continued to increase in 2019 to almost 17 million, an increase of approx. 4 per cent compared with 2018.

The five biggest markets for Swedish campsites are Sweden, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark.
